Diesel engine builders use D.E.F. as part of the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) process. This process allows diesel engines to meet the EPA's 2010 regulations, so it is of critical importance.
D.E.F. is a combination of about 67% purified water and 33% purified automotive-grade urea. When D.E.F. is injected into your truck's exhaust stream and passed over a catalyst, it helps convert nitrogen oxide into nitrogen gas and water vapor. These are two harmless and natural components of the air we breathe.
